You will be developing your own philosophy of education. Understand that this is a work in progress and can change throughout your career life. Do not worry if this sounds daunting. Everyone has one. In essence, what are some (over-riding, general) major items that you believe in regards to teaching/education? Are you teacher-centered or student-centered? You should write about what you believe and back it up with some concrete examples. If I was to write “I believe that everyone can learn…”, I should be able to come up with at least two concrete examples of support. I know that you are not a fully certified teacher yet. You have to think in terms of what kind of teacher that you want to be. In your first paragraph, please identify your targeted grade level (9-12)/content area (Business) of teaching. In the body of your paper, break your paragraphs up into different ways that you will be teaching your students. What will you be doing as a teacher in the classroom? What will your students be doing? Why? Come up with a couple of examples for each way you will be teaching. At this level, you do not need technological jargon. Make sure that you are descriptive and detailed in your explanation of examples. For example, I believe that cooperative learning is an integral teaching method in my classroom. Students need to know how to work together…I would keep explaining this part. I then would come up with a couple of examples like, “I will give each student part of an article to read about President Obama. There will be five students that read the same part of an article”…and I keep providing details of the lesson. Be as descriptive as possible.
For this paper, you need to consider:
• How you will address multicultural education/diversity
• How you will address students with special needs (this is in your book—e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, etc.)
• How you will address Multiple Intelligences
• Anything else you deem to be important
