You will be assessed for the clarity and coherence of your analysis and its supporting references. A Minimum of 8 references are required. See submission requirements below. The UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) which was formally adopted in 2007, recognizes the rights of indigenous peoples: to self-determination (Article 4); to maintain and strengthen their distinct political, legal, economic, social and cultural institutions (Article 5); to own, use, develop and control the lands, territories and resources that they possess by reason of traditional ownership (Article 26); to maintain, control, protect and develop their cultural heritage, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions (Article 31). Question 2: Policy Report: You have been employed by an international non-government organization (INGO) to write a Policy Report providing an overview and summarizing the current state of government policy on Indigenous peoples in the Asian region with regard toone of the Articles concerning the rights of Indigenous peoples provided in the UNDRIP. Include a concise statement of the key issue(s) involved in protection of these rights in your introduction, followed by an analysis of the extent of compliance in the region. Structure: 1) your own title—do not repeat the question2) a general introduction to the situation based on the literature, and3) either a Table with assessments of a sample of Asian nation-states’ recent record on this issue,or Box inserts giving case studies of positive or regressive examples of government policy, judicial or civil society interventions.4) Finally, conclude with at least one lesson learned or recommendation for action by the INGO for which you are providing this brief.
