The review must consider: • The intended audience for the book and who would find it useful; • A brief background of the author; • The main ideas and major objectives of the book and how effectively these are accomplished; • The soundness of methods and information sources used; • The context or impetus for the book – – political controversy, review research or policy, etc.; (WHY was the book thought to be written, motive) • A comparison with other works on this subject, if known and is the book a work of fiction or non-fiction • Constructive comments about the strength and weaknesses of the book; • Students must be sure to include whether or not they believe the work would benefit a student of American History and how. Students are encouraged to be very specific, generalizing or being too broad will not be a success here.
