INT 298M. The Great Migrations in American History and Literature. Fall 2019 Professors Clock and Korn
PHASE THREE OF THE MUSEUM PROJECT
DUE: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, TWO COPIES.
Length: A minimum of TWO typed pages, in EXACT MLA FORMAT.
In this Third phase, you will be researching your chosen aspect of American life, culture, or development that is depicted within your panel, i.e., the topic you described in Section IV of Phase One. You will need a MINIMUM OF TWO OUTSIDE SOURCES—with a MINIMUM OF ONE MLA-Style citation to EACH source you use.
Please follow the outline below:
- Title page, exactly as we have discussed it, which means the name of the mural, your panel as per our labeling, and the name of the painter and the Museum at the bottom of the page.
- Introductory paragraph: This will be similar to the other two phases, with mural, painter, your panel as per our labeling, museum, and location within the museum. Within this paragraph you will now add a few sentences describing the specific topic you are researching; THE LAST SENTENCE OF THIS PARAGRAPH MUST HIGHLIGHT THE EXACT FOCUS OF YOUR RESEARCH.
- The next three paragraphs (approximately three; use your judgment) should discuss your research. What have you found out that is important about this topic? How does it fit into what is depicted in your panel? Within this set of paragraphs you should have A MINIMUM OF TWO MLA CITATIONS (at least ONE for each of the TWO required OUTSIDE sources). Be specific. Be sure to use your own voice throughout so that YOU are saying something about what YOU have learned from the research YOU have done.
- Spend about a paragraph (approximately one; use your judgment) putting the topic you researched into its appropriate historical place within the mural. Describe the way the scene in your panel reflects what you have learned from your research into your special topic. This description should NOT be an exact repetition of your previous descriptions of the content of your panel section. Rather, it should contain some new observations based on your research.
- Conclusion paragraph. All papers must have a conclusion paragraph. Take what you have said in the preceding paragraphs about what you learned from your research and how you connect your topic to what is depicted in your section of the mural, and draw all these observations together into a solid, formal conclusion paragraph.
- Works Cited page. At this point, WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU SUBMIT A FULLY-DEVELOPED WORKS CITED PAGE THAT INCLUDES EVERY SOURCE YOU HAVE USED IN EACH PHASE SO FAR. In essence, this Works Cited page should be as complete and as accurate as possible; it should reflect what you intend to submit for the final version of your Research Project paper on Thursday, 21 November. This way, you will get feedback now on the entire Works Cited page.
- Proofread carefully. Then print out and staple TWO identical copies.
- Pack the two copies of your paper in your bag for submission in class on THURSDAY, 7 NOVEMBER.
