Question Preview:
A university frequently conducts surveys in order to gauge student satisfaction in a number ofdifferent areas. For example, over a three year period, a survey was conducted by theuniversity in order to determine student satisfaction with a particular dining hall on campus. The data from these surveys can be found in the SPSS file Prj22018. Some details about thesesurveys are given below:1. In each year, approximately 400 students were randomly selected as they entered into thedining hall. They were then asked to participate in the survey.2. Each participating student was given a survey questionnaire to complete on their own. Thesurvey questions were identical in each year.3. As an incentive to participate, students who completed the survey questionnaire wereentered into a raffle for bookstore gift certificates. In the first six questions of the questionnaire, students were asked to evaluate the quality andchoice (variety) of food offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner using a 1 to 5 scale, where 1was the lowest rating and a 5 was the highest rating. The questions were labeled v1 to v6 inthe SPSS data set. There were also a series of questions that asked students whether they agreed or disagreedwith various statements concerning the dining hall. These were SPSS variables v7 to v13 andresponse alternatives for these statements were coded as follows:Category 1: AgreeCategory 2: Neither agree nor disagreeCategory 3: DisagreeIn addition, students were asked to indicate their Gender (0=Female, 1=Male) and Class year(0=Upper-class, 1=Freshmen). The variable “Year” in the data set indicates the year in whichthe survey was conducted (2014, 2015, or 2016). All this information is given in the data setwhich you should use to answer the six questions below.*************************************************************************************A. Using only the 2016 survey data, test whether it can be concluded that the mean rating ofthe university’s students was greater than the industry average of 3.55 for each of the threefood quality items (v1 to v3). Use LS=.10. Put your results in a table indicating for each item, the average rating given by sample members, the sample standard deviation, the t-value andthe p-value. Also discuss the conclusions you reached, that is, for which of the food qualityitems did you conclude that the university’s mean rating was greater than the industryaverage of 3.55? Label your table as Table 1.B. Using only the 2016 survey data, test whether it can be concluded that the mean rating ofthe university’s students was greater than the industry average of 3.32 for each of the threefood choice items (v4 to v6). Use LS=.10. Put your results in a table indicating for each item, the average rating given by sample members, the sample standard deviation, the t-value andthe p-value. Also discuss the conclusions you reached, that is, for which of the food choiceitems did you conclude that the university’s mean rating was greater than the industryaverage of 3.32? Label your table as Table 2.C. Using only the 2016 survey data, test whether the mean rating of males differed from themean rating of females for each of the items, v1 to v6. Conduct these tests using LS=.10. Putyour results in a new table showing, for each item, the average rating given by males in thesample, the average rating given by females in the sample, the difference in sample means, and the p-value of your test. Also indicate what conclusions you reached, that is, for whichitems did you conclude that there was a difference between male and female students at theuniversity and what were these differences? Label this as Table 3.D. Consider only freshmen students in 2016. For this group, did freshmen male studentsdiffer from freshmen female students in terms of their mean rating given to each of theitems, v1 to v6? Conduct these tests using LS=.10. Put your results in a table giving the samplemeans, sample differences, and p-values. Label this as Table 4. Then state your conclusionsabout whether or not differences existed and, if so, what these differences were.E. Using data from all three years, test for each of the statements, v7 to v13, whether therewas a relationship between the year the survey was conducted and the opinions that weregiven. Conduct these tests using LS=.10. Put your results in a table. This will be Table 5 and itshould include the percentage of the respondents in each year (2014, 2015 and 2016) who (i)Agreed, (ii) Neither agreed nor disagreed and (iii) Disagreed with each of the variousstatements. The table should also include the sample sizes these percentages were basedupon and the p-values. Then state your conclusion — for which statements, if any, did youconclude there was a relationship? Further, if you concluded there was a relationship, whatwas this relationship?F. Using the data from all three surveys, test whether there was any relationship betweengender and the opinions that were given for each of the statements, v7 to v13. Conduct thesetests using LS=.10. Put your results in a table. This will be Table 6 and it should include thepercentage of the male and female respondents who (i) Agreed, (ii) Neither agreed nordisagreed and (iii) Disagreed with each of the various statements. The table should alsoinclude the sample sizes these percentages were based upon and the p-values. Then stateyour conclusion — for which statements, if any, did you conclude there was a relationship?Further, if you concluded there was a relationship, what was this relationship?
