This task is twofoldet, first prepare a small text – a couple of pages (3 pages)- that should support your oral presentation. For my oral presentations i need to keep on talking for 10 min. So 4 pages should be more than enough.In the small-text you can have incomplete sentences or key words. But you should include the table, which i will come back to further down this page, but make sure that the presentation itself should last around 8-10 minutes. 

Choose a research problem of interest. Select 5-8 cases (it could be countries, but it doesn't have to be) for your study and decide if your proposed study fits a most similar or most different system design ( My topic for the MA thesis is goiing to be something about democrazy in the muslim countrys) We are going to use Pew Research or World Value system. Explain! Identify your dependent (or outcome) variable as well as other key variables (or conditions). Set up a simple truth table of the cases, key conditions and outcome. Use capital letters for present condition and lowercase letters for absent condition. See illustration on page 80 in Landman and Carvalho (2017).  Try your best to simplify the conditions by identifying the necessary and the sufficient conditions with the help of Boolean expressions. Now, keep in mind that the information you provide can be fictitious or factually wrong: the important thing is that you grasp the logic!

Finally, discuss briefly some problems concerning small-n (too many variables, too few cases), equivalence (travelling problem and conceptual stretching) and selection bias related to your study.
