I am now on my Thesis proposal.
I have chosen the topic which addresses to Determine the relationship of the influence of nurse leadership on the perceive autonomy of nurses in ICU regarding decisions about patient care and operational unit decisions. (Please check whether my topic title is right or if not, please make a proper one).
I have upload on the system my research proposal that I will be doing for my thesis, however, my Thesis adviser wants me to do the following to further strengthen my proposal which I will be having oral defence before I can proceed to the thesis itself: (The following were her feedback:)
1. What made you choose this concern nursing leadership characteristics and nurse autonomy other than what you have written In your manuscript.

During the COVID peak crisis, every ICU nurse are expected to lead a team of non-ICU nurse. There were not enough ICU nurses then to look after increased patient capacity, hence nurses from the ward and theatre were asked to work in ICU. ICU nurses whether what band/grade they are in were expected to act as leaders. The non-ICU nurses rely mostly on the ICU nurses for decision making particularly with patient care. This doesn’t include the fact that some of the ICU nurses were new themselves. There was no means to give feedback on how each ICU nurses performed during the peak, and it was not one of the priorities at that time. However, this could have significantly affected patient’s safety and care. Intensive Care Unit is different from other units as each patient is critically ill and would need constant monitoring. Anytime, the patient condition can get worse especially if the nurses won’t be able to pick up determinant clues before a patient becomes severely ill. Hence, nurses in ICU needs thorough training and experience before they become competent. There were a lot of things I learned from the crisis, and one of them was effective leadership.
Nurses are expected to be efficient and effective leaders. However, there is no avenue for the staff nurses to evaluate leadership in our unit. Hence, I would like to find out what aspects of autonomy do nurses perceive that they have in patient care and operational decisions about the unit how the nurse leadership influence this autonomy.

2. Is your focus on the relationship between nursing leadership and nurse autonomy?
My focus will be on the relationship between the perceived nurse autonomy of the nurses regarding patient care and operational unit decision and nurse leadership influence on it.
3. Please clarify your objective number 1 it is confusing.
4. Be sure about your variables: leadership style or characteristics ?
5. Please review you related literature you need to strengthen your basis.
( I need to have a stronger review of lit that strengthens my proposal based on the information I provided).
I have also included on the proposal the possible questions that I will ask during the survey once my proposal will be granted just for you to have an idea. (METHODOLOGY)
This is going to be a thesis paper. Please guide me as well as I only want 1 writer to do this with me.

1. To help the nurse leaders to improve with their leadership based on the result of the study. ( We don’t have feedback for the nurse leaders, hence it will serve as a feedback tool)
2. To improve the staff nurses autonomy. Find out what will encourage and hinders it.
3. For aspiring leaders to learn from it.
