The goal of this exercise is for you to understand both sides of an issue. Students should discuss the strength of the opposing argument of the entire opposing team, not just the opposite speaker. As well as quoting the references used by opponents in their debate, each individual should include discussion from four extra articles from peer-reviewed journals to support their discussion. You may use these to reinforce any part of your short counterargument paper. For instance, if the opponent team made what are seemingly goodpoints— but supported this with a relatively weak or biased reference (eg from Wikipedia), you might make the same argument, however, use a peer-reviewed journal as your support source. The headings used in this assessment task should be as follows: • Topic heading (state AFFIRMATIVE or NEGATIVE position – this should be opposite to the position you took in your debate) • Introduction (50 words) • Strength of opponents’ argument (300 words) • The weakness of your argument (200 words) • Conclusion (50 words) • Opponents’ references (as provided by them at the debate) • Your references (at least four) • NOTE— It is important to not just repeat the arguments or both teams – each individual should discuss the strengths of the opponent’s argument and the weakness of their own.Note— this is not a team task.
