write a fully fleshed out Description paper on one of the following topics:

Describe a job youâ€ve had that truly interested you.
Describe object of value to you (ex: a car, cell phone, can of Coke, etc)
Describe person of importance in your life (ex: family member, loved one, old teacher, etc).

All descriptions should use concrete as well as abstract details to help the reader fully understand what the things described are like on a physical level as well as what greater meaning they have to the writer.
Whichever topic you choose, you should have a main focus in your paper that makes an ARGUMENT. Whether that argument is, for instance, “because of A, B, and C, this photograph exemplifies my childhood,” or, “due to 1, 2, and 3, my pet bunny is one of the most important things in my life,” or, even, “This, That, and the Other thing make my former boss Waldo W. Wallace a person I will never forget.” Show that this experience, thing, or person is important to you, is worth remembering, and use the specific descriptions you give to back this up. Let your reader know why they are reading this.
Your essay should contain a thesis statement that gives me an idea of how you will back this point up and how your support will be organized throughout. Successful essays will follow the course rubric and use plentiful details, including those from all five senses.
500 words (2 pages double spaced 12 point font)

Before final draft, you have to finish 1A -1E.

Assignment 1A: Pre-Writing
Your first assignment in the creation of your Description Paper (1F) is to do a Pre-Writing exercise (1A). For this exercise you can choose one type of Pre-Writing, such as:
Asking questions
Listing
Brainstorming
Freewriting
Clustering
Bubbling
Informal Outlining
At the top of the first page of your assignment, list the type of Pre-Writing you chose to use from this list.
Choose one of the three topics for the Description paper ((1) Describe a job youâ€ve had that truly interested you, (2) describe an object of value to you, or (3) describe a person of importance in your life) and write out one of the above Pre-Writing activities on that topic.
Your Pre-Writing activity should be at least one full page in length.
At the bottom of the last page of your assignment, write down a one sentence description of your narrowed topic for this paper.
Assignment 1B: Thesis Statement
Your second assignment in the creation of your Description Paper (1F) is to create your thesis statement (1B). For this exercise you should use this sheet as your guide and create a printed one page assignment that identifies your TOPIC, your STANCE on that topic, and three SUPPORT POINTS that you will use to back up that stance in your paper. Please include your name, date, etc., as you would on any other assignment and bring three hard copies to workshop (see Course Schedule announcement for dates).

Assignment 1C: Outline
Your third assignment in the creation of your Description Paper (1F) is to take your thesis statement (1B) and expand it into an outline (1C). For this exercise you should use this handout as your guide and create a printed 1-2 page assignment that outlines a five paragraph structure for your essay based on an introduction, three support paragraphs, and a conclusion. Per our discussion in class, the three support points from your thesis should be the basis for your three support paragraphs. Please include your name, date, etc., as you would on any other assignment and bring three hard copies to workshop (see Course Schedule announcement for dates).
See the next two pages for a helpful breakdown of how to assemble a complete outline. If you have any questions, please donâ€t hesitate to ask!

Assignment 1D: First Draft
Your fourth assignment in the creation of your Description Paper (1F) is to take your outline (1C) and expand it into a full draft of your paper (1D). For this exercise you should use this handout as your guide and create a printed one-to-two page assignment that follows the five paragraph structure of your outline, but is fleshed out into complete sentences, and includes a clear introduction, support paragraphs, concrete examples, and a complete conclusion. Per our discussion in class, the three support points from your thesis should be the basis for your three support paragraphs.
Assignment 1E: Revision Exercise Assignment 1F: Final Draft
Your fifth and sixth assignments in the creation of your Description Paper (1F) are to take your first draft (1D), to do a revision exercise on it (1E), and then to fully revise and edit your first draft to create a final draft (1F) for submission in class.

1E: Revision Exercise
For this exercise you should review (look again) at your first draft and type full sentence answers to the following prompts:

What part of your paper, if any, can use expansion and what specific information can you add there to make it stronger?
What part of your paper, if any, gets off topic, or goes off track, and what can you remove to help with this?
Is your organization strong? If so, what makes it strong? If not, or if it could use improvement still, what can you move or substitute to help?
What is your paperâ€s biggest strength? Be specific.
What is your paperâ€s best opportunity for improvement? Be specific.
What is one specific step you can take in revision or editing to improve your paper before submitting your final draft?
