The article can be from any international newspaper. In Part B, you will write your own science communication article of the water pollution event, improving on the article you critiqued in Part A. This article should be persuasive and creative (like a traditional media article) but be scholarly, scientifically accurate and informative at the same time. Learning Outcomes: • Develop skills of searching through primary literature for media articles • Critically evaluate a media article for accurate of content • Communicate a scientific critique through written blog post • Enhance communication skills through writing own version of a media article Part A: Media Article Critique (Blog Post) In Part A, you will critique a media article that is based on a water pollution event that has occurred anywhere in the world at any point in history. You can choose an article that is found in any newspaper, magazine or journal internationally (but must be written in the English language) as long as the article focuses on a water pollution event or its environmental consequences. Your blog post should be a first-person critique of the article. In your critique, you should include the following information: • Whether you agree with what is being conveyed in the article or not, and why • Whether you think the article is based on sound scientific information. If not, provide a correction using relevant sources • Whether you think the article was written in a persuasive and convincing way • Your own opinion or views on the topic • Any additional information that you think would help a reader become better informed about this topic • An APA-formatted full citation of the article must be included at the end of your critique Assignment #2 must be submitted digitally to our eClass course website before Monday November 9, 2020 at 11:59pm.
