Final Speech Objectives
1. To increase the audience’s knowledge or understanding of an aspect of your profession that needs development or interests you. It should be either a concept, relationship, or event
2. To use a variety of supporting materials (quotations, examples, statistics, etc) from a variety of sources in order to add depth to your speech, to add evidence in support of your ideas, and to maintain your audience’s interest in this topic.
3. To use descriptive language, effective delivery techniques, and self-evaluation in order to increase speaker effectiveness
SPEECH REQUIREMENTS AND CRITERIA
• Your speech should be effectively organized, outlined, introduced, and concluded.
• Your main points should be clearly supported by at least a total of FIVE (5) PIECES of supporting material (at least 1 example, 1 statistic, 1 testimony) from at least 3 different sources. Your examples, statistics, and quotations must be cited in your speech. Only one of those supporting materials may be from the Bible.
• It must also include at least 2 creative language devices (alliteration, simile, metaphor, antithesis, etc).
• Your speech must be delivered extemporaneously from notes. Do NOT prepare a speech manuscript: do NOT memorize a manuscript. Please only use 2 speaking cards.
• This assignment is worth 200points. Criteria for grading includes: Introduction, organization, content development, conclusion, extemporaneous delivery, time limit, audience centered-ness, and outlines.
