Description
ASA (American Sociological Association) style should be followed for citations and references. 2 or 3 citations are required from the book which I am going to attach with this file. It is a basic course of Sociology that is An Introduction to Sociology. Need to read the first 2 chapters and do some questions.
Assessment Criteria and Submission Instructions
In presenting your assignments, you are expected to follow the accepted style for writing academic work. Refer to the TRU Library’s “Cite My Sources: Style Guides”. Please provide your identifying information (name, student number, course, assignment number, and date) at the top of the first page. A title page and table of contents is not required, but write out each question you choose to answer. Use a 12pt font, double-space your text, and provide citations with page references to the textbook or other sources you consult. For the two short essays in Part B, review the essay formatting described in the“Cite My Sources: Style Guides”.
Substance (75%)
Your assignment answers should provide evidence of critical thinking and analysis, a synthesis of information throughout, and a logical and well-connected argument.
Your references and citations are relevant, since they provide background and support for the argument you advance in the assignment. Ensure that you clearly document them in your paper.
For the short essays, your introduction offers a sense of direction for your paper and presents a clear thesis statement for the reader.
The body of your paper should develop the necessary aspects of your main idea and provide examples, support, and/or illustrations for each aspect of this main idea.
Your conclusion should summarize the main points you have made and tie them to your thesis.
Writing Style and Format (25%)
It is important to ensure that:
Paragraphs are unified, developed, and coherent, with transitions between ideas.
Sentences are grammatically correct, and words are chosen for accuracy and clarity.
The writing follows the conventions of spelling and mechanics (punctuation, etc.).
The format accurately and consistently follows the American Psychological Association (APA) documentation style.
Submitting Your Assignments
As soon as you have completed an assignment, save your document and send it to your Open Learning Faculty Member for marking.
Always keep a copy of each assignment you submit so that you can refer to it in the event of a telephone or email conference with your Open Learning Faculty Member. In addition, many student-writing manuals recommend that students keep copies of their early drafts to protect themselves against potential charges of plagiarism.
Assignment 1
Assignment 1 covers material presented in Unit 1 of the course and is worth 15% of your total course mark. In Part A, you must write two short paragraph answers of 150–250 words each and, in Part B, you must write two short essays of 400–600 words each.
Before you begin, under the Assignments Overview tab, review the Assessment Criteria and Submission Instructions for Parts A & B.
Part A
Answer two of the following questions in short paragraph answers of 150–250 words each. (10 marks each)
In sociology, what is the difference between examining social life at the micro-level, macro-level, and global-level? Provide an example to illustrate how the three levels of analysis might apply to the same social phenomenon.
Why is it important to distinguish between correlation (i.e., “relationship”) and causation?
What are the key distinctions that divide the positivist, interpretive, and critical approachesin sociology?
According to Durkheim, why is suicide more than just an individual act of desperation that results from a psychological disorder?
Part B

Summarize the key principles by which scientific thinking is distinguished from non-scientific thinking, and discuss their application to sociology. Why is this distinction important?
