Policies and understanding of the federal system

Students will demonstrate social responsibility by choosing one policy issue that will contribute positively to one’s family, community, society, or their environment. Explain how your chosen policy affects both the federal and state/local governments and the relationships between the different levels of government. Does the political culture of a state or locality change how individual citizens or groups of citizens view your policy?

 

Guidelines:

Assignment:  You will choose a policy that you have studied about in section 3

You will write a (minimum) 500-800 letter (with emphasis being in the 800 word area) explaining, as a citizen, your position on the policy you chose answering the following questions:

 

How does the policy affect your family community, society or your environment (choose one)

What affect does this policy have on the state government?  Federal government? Is there a relationship between both governments?

Does the political culture of where you are have an affect on the policy? If so, how would the opinions of people change on the policy if they lived in Texas? California?

 

Format:

1. Formatting:
   1. If you are using someone else’s words, in a direct quote, use quotation marks and a citation.
   2. If you are paraphrasing someone else, use a citation.

• If you are using statistics, numbers, or data you did not collect yourself, use a citation.

   1. As many as you need.
   2. Only use academic, scholarly, news, or informational websites
      1. Wikipedia is not a source.  This is non-negotiable.
      2. Blogs are not a source. If it says ‘blog’ in the url, it’s a blog
   3. Use in-text citation, any style, with a complete Bibliography/Works Cited page (this is required).
