Identification of Focus for Community Teaching
The community teaching will focus on health promotion.
Epidemiological Rationale for Topic
Currently, young adults are exposed to more health issues compared to the recent past. That is attributed to the changing trends in the area of lifestyle and eating habits. Young adults are less likely to exercise, eat breakfast, and get regular dental and physical checkups. On the other hand, they are more likely to eat fast foods, smoke cigarettes, marijuana and take other hard drugs, and also contract sexually transmitted infections and diseases (NAP, n.d.). According to CDC, many young engage in sexual activity and a high number do not use protection. That has increased the rate of STD transmission among young adults as well as increasing the early pregnancies. About 11% of the young adults are food-insecure. Data from the CDC indicate that about 40% of obesity prevails among younger adults (CDC, n.d.) . Thus, it is essential to promote health education among them to ensure that their health outcomes are increased.
Teaching Plan Criteria
The teaching plan criteria that will be used will be suitable to educate the young adults. Presentation slides will be shown on the whiteboard via the projector. That will enable the young adults in the community hall to see the presentation clearly. The nurse educator will cover the topic of how young adults can promote their health. The method will be effective as the young adults will be engaged in activities that they can do to increase their health. Moreover, during the evening sessions, the young adults will be put in groups so that they may discuss the tasks that they will be given. That will enhance understanding. Additionally, charts will be hung all around the community hall so that during the breaks that young adults may read them. Additionally, on the second day of the community program, the young adults will be screened to ensure that they do not have any illnesses and those who are found with illnesses will be treated.
Nursing Diagnosis:
Nursing diagnosis is the clinical judgment about an individual, family, or community responses to actual or potential health problems. In this case, the nursing diagnosis will be conducted to identify the health issues that younger adults struggle with. That will ensure that the nurse educator tackles most of the health concerns for younger adults.
Readiness for Learning:
The readiness for learning will be used to identify whether the young adults are ready to engage in the community learning program. The first indicator of readiness for learning will be the young adults settling in the hall and waiting for the speaker to come and start the session. The second indicator will be the younger adults having materials that they may record what they learn during the program. That will indicate their emotional and psychological readiness to learn. Moreover, the nurse educator can ask whether they are ready to start the session and see how the response of the young adults will be.
Learning Theory to Be Utilized:
The learning theory that will be utilized is the social constructivism learning theory. The theory indicates that knowledge is created as a result of social interactions rather than an individual experience (Schneider, 2020). Thus, during this program, after the nurse educator has educated the young adults, they will be allowed to ask questions and answer the questions to see if the answers can help them have better health outcomes. Additionally, they will be divided into groups to ensure that they learn from one another and they discuss the issues that they have learned from the nurse educator thus ensuring that they understand what they have learned. Moreover, the communities of practice learning theory will also be used. The theory indicates that reification and participation make learning meaningful (Mercieca, 2017). Thus, from the concrete lessons taught by the nurse educator to the participation of the young adults through asking questions and in group discussion, effective learning will be fostered.
Goal:
The Healthy People 2020 focus area that will be selected in this community program will be Health-Related Quality of Life and well-being. The objective of the Healthy People 2020 that will be used as a goal of this health promotion program will be attaining higher quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death (CDC, 2018). The teaching will be related to the objective that has been identified as it will entail teaching the younger adults on ways that they can promote their health thus having better health outcomes.
How Does This HP2020 Objective Relate to Alma Ata’s Health for All Global Initiatives
The Alma-Ata declaration which was co-founded by the WHO is documentation that indicates that there is a need for urgent action by the governments, healthcare stakeholders, and the community to promote and protect the health of all the people in the world (WHO, n.d.). The HP 2020 objective that was selected related to this healthcare initiative. That is because the HP 2020 advocates for the promotion of quality lives of the people by reducing the occurrence of preventable diseases, injury, and premature deaths. Thus, the two have a relationship that is aimed at increasing the health outcomes of the general population.

Planned Evaluation of Objectives
1. The young adults will be categorized into groups that will be given tasks to complete. They will be gauged on how well they finish the tasks.
2. The young adults will also be issued with an evaluation questionnaire that will be used to indicate how well they have understood the lessons.
3. The nurse educator will randomly ask questions to identify the progress of understanding among the young adults.
Planned Evaluation of Goal:
The overall effectiveness of the teaching plan will be measured through the assessment of the work that will be assigned to the groups. Each group will be required to present their answers and findings thus showing how well they understood the concepts taught.
Planned Evaluation of Lesson and Teacher
The participants in the health promotion program will be given an evaluation questionnaire that will be used to show the effectiveness of the nurse educator and the lesson taught. The questionnaire will have closed and open-ended questions. Through the analysis of the evaluation questionnaire, the effectiveness of the lesson and teacher will be identified.
Barriers:
The potential barrier that may emerge is the uncooperativeness of the young adults. At times, the young adults may be difficult to handle as they have their autonomy. Thus, they may be uncooperative thus resulting in difficulty in teaching during the program.
Therapeutic Communication
4.2 Communicate therapeutically with patients.
To capture the interest of the audience, I will begin the presentation with a video. The video will show the benefits of living a healthy life as well as the disadvantages of not living a healthy life. That will ensure that the young adults’ attention is drawn towards learning on how they may promote their health. To ensure that the audience is listening actively, the nurse educator will ask questions from time to time to see how well they are answered. Moreover, when the young adults ask questions for clarification, it will be an indicator that they are listening actively. The presentation will be concluded by asking the young adults to categorize themselves into groups by assigning each group a task. To ensure that the presentation is effective, non-verbal cues such as facial expressions and the use of hands to illustrate a point will be used. Additionally, body language will be utilized.
