Throughout this course, you have been examining communication styles, skills, and dispositions, as well as how your own background, or “schema,” can affect your perceptions and, furthermore, your communication competence. As you know, your communication skills affect the way you interact with others, one on one, as well as in groups or within collaborative teams. To be able to truly collaborate, you must be willing to set aside your personal agenda and agree to be part of a group, developing trusting relationships and working toward a common vision to achieve specific goals. Part 1: Collaboration Scenario In this Assignment, you will have the opportunity to apply everything you have learned about communication, team building, cultural competence, and collaboration skills to a realistic scenario in the early childhood field. This scenario will challenge you to draw on the various strategies and skills from your Learning Resources and personal experiences to engage in collaboration. Read the following scenario: You have been named as the executive director in charge of seeking a grant to set up a Family Literacy Center in your community. Your community is in an area where many people are from different cultural backgrounds and speak a variety of languages. So far, all of the following organizations and people have been cooperative and voiced their support for the literacy center: local library, public and private preschools, Head Start, as well as the local college’s TESL program. The only participants who seem to lack enthusiasm and have not been attending meetings are the families who potentially will benefit most from this program. It is vitally important that the families become involved so their perspectives can be considered and their voices heard. Their input in how the program is set up, organized, and implemented is essential to ensure that the program truly serves the needs of the community. Part 2: Developing Your Proposal Examine what you have learned throughout the course about effective communication skills, intercultural communication, and collaborative skills. Think about the skills, knowledge, and dispositions of effective communicators, relationship builders, and collaborators. Then propose what you would do, as the executive director, to ensure that your grant clearly demonstrates collaboration between all of the stakeholders, especially the families, in an effort to create a true Family Literacy Center. For your proposal, write a paper that addresses how you would approach this lack of collaboration by responding to the following questions: What communication and collaboration skills would you use? What other tools/strategies or leadership skills might you use? What cultural competencies might you draw upon to help you engage families in this process? How might you persuade other organizations to help encourage family participation? Note: Be specific in describing the types of communication strategies and skills you would employ as well as the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that would help you engage all of the agencies to work together and build and bridge of effective collaboration with the families. You may need to research information about Family Literacy Centers to round out your plan. Be sure to cite all sources that substantiate your thinking. For your paper, draw specific examples and ideas from your Learning Resources, personal experiences, and two additional resources you found on your own. Part 3: Add a Communication Goal This week, use what you have learned about team building and collaboration strategies and skills to add at least one communication goal to the list you began in Week 4. Assignment length: Approximately 3 – 4 pages Save your assignment: The Week 7 Assignment is your Major Assessment for this course. By Day 7 I have 3 different articles one of them is a video that is uploaded as a transcript, also two other article must be use for the essay that is related to the topic. Lastly I have uploaded my week 4 essay for the communication goal.

What Am I as a Communicator?
Communication plays an integral part of human nature. There is various mechanism that people use to pass information from one end to the other. Language is perceived to be the most used communication tool, although other means like signals, gestures, tone of the voice, and eye behavior can be used to pass the message. This assignment seeks to help me examine and evaluate my communication and listening styles, dispositions, and skills (Rubin et al. 2010).
Part 1:

Communication Anxiety Inventory
Under the communication anxiety inventory with a score of 39, I learn that I am comfortable with some aspects of communication and uncomfortable with some other types. This is true since I am a selective person, and there are topics that I don’t find myself okay to be involved in. Altogether, I am not communication does not shake me a big deal at all.

Verbal Aggressiveness Scale

With a 69 under verbal aggressiveness score, the scale classifies under a significant level, which indicates that I can easily cross the line with the slightest provocation in an argument, which involves personal attacks and can harm my listener. Listening Styles Profile

Group 1 (30-40) – People-oriented
Though I am empathetic and concerned about other people’s emotions, this trait affects my decision making since I trust others.
Group 2 (20-29) – Action – Oriented
I am a person who wants clarity in my communication and to the point. Even though I get respect out of this, to more sensitive listeners, I may be intimidating.
Group 3 (10-19) – Content – oriented
Getting all the facts right before making any conclusive decision is my priority though urgent response matters; I find significant challenges.
Group 4 (1-9) – Time – oriented
My days are always well planned. I am a time-conscious person and very impatient at the same time.
Part 2:

Communication Anxiety Inventory

My friend’s score on his thought on my communication anxiety inventory is at 33. Though slightly lower than mine, the two scores seem almost to be the same. It reports that I am comfortable communicating in most situations and confident in anticipating such moments.

Verbal Aggressiveness Scale

With a 61 under a moderate level, I maintain the right balance between respect and consideration for other people. I have a fair ability to argue by attacking the facts of a position rather than the person holding the position.

Listening Styles Profile

I am categorized under group 2, and Action-oriented person is what I am classified under. I possess business-like attributes with great inclination on a plan of action since I prefer clear and point-to-point communication.
Part 3:
Interestingly enough, my friends evaluated me was almost similar to my evaluation with a slightly lower or higher score. Many factors determine the type of communicator, and through understanding such aspects, one can learn more about him/herself as far as communication is concerned. These evaluations have taught me that my communication type is a diverse field that touches many aspects, such as how I react to other individuals and how I plan my daily activities. The evaluations consider several factors of a person such a human-values like patience and empathy towards others. These evaluations identify me as a severe business-like person who requires precise and to the point communication.
On the other hand, the evaluations identify me as an intimidating person to other people. Though others perceive me as a stern and strict person, I have a central opinion about myself. I consider myself as an accommodating person who doesn’t show over dominance on others.
The information acquired from the assessments is incredibly useful to me, for it has given me bases to improve my communication skills. The first communication goal that I seek to develop is to reduce anxiety in my communication. High levels of stress in most communication areas affect how I decode information or deliver information to others. Creating low pressure will positively affect how I communicate with people of all categories from the children’s level to the organizational stages. It will give me a better perspective to relate with others and a better chance to influence others.  The second goal that I seek to develop is to be considerate to others in my communication. Communication flows better when one puts some elements of care and empathy on others. It is highly acceptable to accommodate other people’s point of view since it serves as a learning tool for oneself in communication (Rubin et al. 2010). Being considerate helps people of all categories feel comfortable communicating with me hence offering a better chance of exchanging information. The third and last goal that I seek to develop in my communication aspect is synchronized my facial expressions with my words. There is more to communication than just a language, and to this effect, I seek to develop my facial expression communication skills to emphasize my words.
