1- Sickle cell disease is an adaptive response against malaria. Through evolution, this adaptation is part of the genetic disease called sickle cell disease. This genetic adaptation occurred in African people in countries that neighbor large bodies of water. Malaria is transmitted by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. People with sickle cell disease rarely get infected with, plasmodium falciparum,  the parasite that causes malaria.
