Data Collection and summary

Once a research focus is selected, the vision and target have been clarified, and research questions have been developed, a researcher begins to plan data collection based upon the research questions. Data collection takes on different formats, such as observation, surveys, samples, documents, multimedia materials, assessments, and interviews. This is the fourth step of the action research process. Data provides the researcher with the ability to investigate authentic behaviors, responses, and work samples in an attempt to respond to the research questions.

Research focus: The impact of the flipped classroom in middle school

Possible research questions: 

• How do you implement the flipped classroom with students who do not have access to internet at home?
• Is the average middle school student responsible enough to take part in the flipped classroom and do their part at home adequately?
• Will the students lack-of knowledge regarding technology make the flipped classroom model more time consuming for students?

Select at least one of the options listed (i.e. observation, surveys, samples, documents, multimedia materials, assessments, and/or interviews) to collect data based on the vision, target, and research questions developed in Topics 1 and 2. Use a graphic organizer to display the data collected that aligns to the research questions.

In addition to your data collection, write a 500-750 word essay to include the following:

• Explain the data collection process and the research considerations for your action research study.
• Describe the data collection plan and the rationale for your selected data collection method.

Support your data collection plan with 3-5 scholarly resources.
