The overarching goal of this project is conduct research through a literature review on an issue in plant ecology, using the primary literature to answer a research question regarding the deforestation occurring in Madagascar.
Description:
The island of Madagascar was once a lush rainforest that was home to many animals and plants, but now is being cut down for agricultural and development land use. The impact has affected the biodiversity of the plant species, soil composition, and water resource. We plan to look into the ways deforestation has affected the native species in Madagascar. We hope to find how biodiversity has changed over time and what has lead to changes within plants that inhabit that region. We expect to see a change in land structure, soil composition, as well as biodiversity but will limit our focus on one or two of these factors by finding past studies that have collected data from areas in Madagascar affected by deforestation. We will present the data from the literature in our project and make conclusions based on what the researchers have found.
